Some of the biggest names I'd like to point the finger at for pulling out from the platform are Activision Blizzard, Bethesda Softwares, 2K Games, and Hinterland Studios. If it's not hurting others, and it's not, don't mess with them. People have a right to the content they purchase regardless of the method they choose to enjoy it. Developers should not have the right to pull their game from what is really no different from running your desktop in an office but streaming the game to your laptop in bed because you want to lay down.

Developers should, and do, get a cut of the profits from the sale of a license from a Cloud Gaming Store.ĭevelopers are worried about getting more of a cut, but why should they when these Cloud Gaming Services aren't making money off of the developer's work, they're making money off of the servers they provide. All licenses are handled by their service. On the other hand, is Cloud Gaming Stores these services require that you purchase a new license for each title before you can play using their servers.

From there the store verifies your license before launching the game. They do not provide you with a license before you play you have to sign into whatever store client the game is from. Cloud Gaming Services do not sell games, they merely provide you with remote access to hardware on which to play your game. I'm going to refer to services such as GeForce NOW as Cloud Gaming Services. These developers should not be able to pull their content from a service like GeForce NOW. Game developers are pulling their content from the platform because they aren't getting a cut. The problem some of these services are hitting, namely GeForce NOW, is licensing.

For an increasing population that monthly fee is easier to stomach than a single $700 or more purchase of better gaming hardware every year or two. These platforms provide a way for people who can't afford to keep up with all the latest gaming hardware to play AAA titles for a small monthly fee. One of the major shifts we're seeing right now is the increase in cloud gaming platforms.
